Community Event Spotlight: The Beaux Arts Festival This Weekend

The Beaux Arts Festival of Arts is taking over Coral Gables this weekend. Join in this January 18th & 19th from 10am-5pm, admission is free. As an introduction, the Festival is over 60 years old and is one of the most popular shows on the University of Miami Coral Gables campus. Starting in 1952 as a way to introduce young artists to their consuming public, the family event has grown into an annual initiative with over 300 participating artists in 10 different mediums on the campus grounds. Any proceeds from the weekend benefit the Lowe Art Museum at UM, and over the past 65 years has raised $6 Million. The initiative demonstrates the close ties between the University at Miami and our larger community, playing an important role in Miami’s internationally renowned art scene. A Beaux Arts’ Director’s Endowment Fund supports increased programming at the Museum, community outreach, and facility upgrades.

The Festival also includes student artist showcases, highlighting the talents of middle school and high school students from public/private institutions in the area. 350 of these art pieces are expected to be judged in a juried art contest. The winners are displayed within the walls of the Lowe Art Museum. Encouraging community artists has always been a goal of the weekend and the 2020 festival weekend will be no different.

So make time this weekend to stroll through the event which expects around 20,000 attendees, a drastic difference from the Coconut Grove Arts Festival weekend which can draw hundreds of thousands. The more intimate setting, run entirely by volunteers, offers a more tranquil experience for the viewing public. Visitors will find a food court with 20 different booths along with arts & crafts parks for kids. Enjoy live music & entertainment along with free admission into Lowe Art Museum all weekend.
